The Story

Every child knows what it feels like
to be afraid of something good.

Ukundiza is a butterfly who has spent a long time on her branch. She knows she has wings. She has watched others fly. But the sky is large and the branch is familiar, and becoming what you were made to be is harder than it looks from the ground.

Fly, Little One is for children aged 3–6. Written by Monica Anyango. The text is complete, the illustrator is confirmed, and the illustrations are underway.

The text is written. The illustration brief is complete. The illustrator is confirmed.

The Virtue Tree

Every Princedom Kids story is grounded in the Virtue Tree — a formation framework that grows character from the roots up. Fly, Little One, plants the first roots.

Roots

Attention & Patience — the foundation. Ukundiza learns to wait before she flies.

Trunk

Care — she is tended, and learns to tend.

Branches

Courage — the virtue the story is ultimately about.

Fruit

Becoming — what it looks like to live into what you were made for.

Why this matters

Most children's books about virtue explain.
This one shows.

The text is written. The illustrator is confirmed. What this campaign funds is the cost of twenty full-colour spreads — the illustration that makes the story what it needs to be for a child who is 3, and for the parent reading it for the twelfth time.

Every family who backs this book is part of bringing it into existence. The founding families page in every copy of the series carries their names permanently. That is a real thing to pass down.

Back the book

Questions

When will the book be published?

Publication is expected twelve months after the campaign reaches its goal, allowing time to complete the illustrations, layout, printing, and fulfilment. Backers receive updates throughout.

Is the campaign goal required for publication?

Yes. The campaign funds the illustration. Without reaching the goal, the book cannot be published at the quality it deserves. If the goal is not reached, all contributions are returned.

Can I give this as a gift?

Yes — and it is a good one. At checkout, note the name and address of the recipient and the book ships directly to them with a note from Monica.

The illustrator is confirmed.

I am so pleased to introduce the illustrator for Fly, Little One. Her work is warm, specific, and real — exactly the quality of attention a story about a butterfly learning to fly deserves. I will share concept art in the next update.

Why this story.

I wrote Fly, Little One because I kept watching my children stand at the edge of things. The swimming pool. A new situation. Something they wanted desperately and were terrified of at the same time. I wanted a story we could read together that named what that feels like — and showed them that the flying is possible. That the branch is not where the story ends.
